Region 5
Box Elder 42, Northridge 12
On Friday, September 1, in Week 4 of high school football in Region 5, the Box Elder Bees had a big win over the Northridge Knights with a score of 42-12. The game took place at Weber High School.
Box Elder took control of the game early and had a commanding lead of 23-0 by halftime. One of the standout players for Box Elder was Dax Sumko, who scored multiple touchdowns, including an impressive 30-yard run.
Northridge tried to make a comeback, and they had a notable moment when Porter Olsen threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Malu Lumpkins. However, Box Elder’s strong defense prevented Northridge from gaining much momentum.
Bountiful 28, Viewmont 27
In a very close game between the Viewmont Vikings and the Bountiful Redhawks, the Redhawks won 28-27. At the beginning of the game, Landon Zayas from Bountiful kicked two field goals, which gave his team the lead.
Viewmont came back in the second quarter with a touchdown by Dax Nielsen. The third quarter had a lot of action, with Viewmont’s Daren Tovey throwing an important touchdown pass to Jordan Jones, and Zayas from Bountiful kicking another field goal.
In the fourth quarter, the Vikings made a comeback with Nielsen scoring another touchdown by running and a touchdown pass to Drez Jensen. However, Bountiful’s Emmerson Geilman made a pass to Faletau Satuala for a game-winning touchdown, and the Redhawks won by just one point.
Roy 56, Clearfield 0
In a game where one team dominated, the Roy Royals played against the Clearfield Falcons. The Royals won the game by a big score of 56-0.
Right from the start, the Royals’ offense was very effective. They scored 28 points in the first quarter with touchdowns from DaeQwan Snider, Kahekili Eleneke, Logan Cella, and Dru Gardner. In the second quarter, they kept going strong, with Logan Cella and Robert Young scoring more touchdowns. By halftime, the Royals were leading 49-0.
In the third quarter, Joseph Cariaga III added a remarkable 65-yard touchdown run. On the other hand, the Clearfield Falcons had a tough time getting their offense going, and they didn’t score any points. So, it was a big win and a shutout victory for the Royals.
Bonneville 54, Woods Cross 43
The Bonneville Lakers had an exciting game against the Woods Cross Wildcats and won with a score of 54-43.
At the start of the game, Jaxon Johnson made a great pass to Isaac Mansaray, and Ashton Archuleta had an impressive run, which gave the Bonneville Lakers an early lead. Woods Cross didn’t give up and fought back with some determined plays. Cash Henderson scored a short-yardage touchdown for them.
But the Bonneville Lakers stayed strong with their offense, led by Archuleta and Johnson, which kept them in the lead and gave them a 2-2 record for the season. In the later part of the game, both teams showed a lot of determination.
Even though Woods Cross was behind in the score, they made a comeback with Lock Smoot throwing a touchdown pass to Reece Hammond. However, the Lakers sealed the win with a 95-yard kick return for a touchdown by Isaac Mansaray. This wrapped up an exciting high school football game.
Region 6
East 10, Alta 7
In Region 6, the East team played against Alta, and the game ended with a score of 10-7 in favor of East.
The first quarter of the game didn’t see any points scored by either team. It was in the second quarter when the Leopards, representing East, finally broke the tie. Michael Nunu Fonua scored a 6-yard touchdown run, giving his team a 7-0 lead.
Just before halftime, Alta managed to even the score. Matt McKea and Wyatt Johnson connected for a touchdown.
The second half of the game was all about defense, with both teams struggling to outscore the other. However, in the final minutes, East made a crucial play. They got close to the end zone and Luca Viana successfully kicked a 37-yard field goal with only two seconds left on the clock. This secured a hard-fought victory for the Leopards from East.
