The top ten teams from the preseason California Top 25 maintain their positions in the first in-season ranking, supported by NFL Play Football. Additionally, three new teams have entered the statewide rankings this week, which were created using our unique algorithm.
Mater Dei ranked at No. 1, and St. John Bosco, ranked at No. 2, both secured impressive victories against teams with national rankings to start the weekend. Mater Dei triumphed over Corona Centennial with a score of 28-14. St. John Bosco defeated Liberty from Nevada with a score of 42-22. Presently, Corona Centennial holds the No. 22 spot in our national rankings, while Liberty is positioned at No. 169.
This weekend, all attention will be on South Florida for the nationally-televised clash between St. John Bosco and four-time defending state champion St. Thomas Aquinas. Similar to the state rankings, Bosco holds the No. 2 spot nationally, while STA is at No. 6.
Following their victory over Liberty, SJB now boasts a 16-game winning streak against out-of-state opponents. It’s worth noting that St. Thomas Aquinas was the last team to defeat Bosco back in 2017.
Mater Dei is also hitting the road. The Monarchs will travel to Utah to face Bingham, positioned at No. 221 in the 300.
Oaks Christian makes a significant leap into the Top 25 at No. 17 after a decisive 55-28 victory over preseason No. 13 Chaminade. In the upcoming week, the Lions will host No. 7 Sierra Canyon.
Additionally, Cathedral Catholic from San Diego enters the rankings at No. 23, followed by Helix at No. 24.
In addition to the Sierra Canyon and Oaks Christian matchups, there are three other head-to-head matchups within the CA Top 25:
- No. 3 Corona Centennial against No. 13 Santa Margarita
- No. 6 Orange Lutheran against No. 12 De La Salle
- No. 10 Folsom against No. 8 Serra (San Mateo)
